Esperance welcomed the new year in true community spirit with the NYE 2024 Festival, a vibrant, family-friendly celebration made possible through the generous support of the Mt Burdett Foundation’s Esperance Community Advisory Committee (ECAC).

Hosted by the Rotary Club of Esperance, the event drew thousands of locals and visitors to the town foreshore for an evening of live music, food, entertainment, and a spectacular environmentally friendly laser show. The contribution of ECAC in part funded the laser show, which replaced the traditional fireworks display. This had not yet been attempted, but was proven to be better for the environment and more dog and wildlife friendly.

The NYE 2024 Festival was a resounding success on multiple fronts. It:

  • Strengthened community cohesion

  • Boosted local economic activity

  • Positioned Esperance as a New Year’s destination

  • Showcased local vendors and food providers

  • Promoted sustainable, family-oriented celebrations

“The atmosphere was relaxed and inclusive, young and old came together to enjoy food, music, and a sense of connection. Food vendors sold out by 8:30pm, and market stallholders said they’d be back in a heartbeat,” said event coordinator Murray McGregor.

Local businesses also played a huge role, contributing both cash and in-kind support, while Rotary members volunteered their time and effort. The event even earned front-page coverage in the Kalgoorlie Miner, highlighting the scale and success of the night.

One of the standout moments was the overwhelmingly positive response to the laser show, a vibrant, eco-friendly alternative to traditional fireworks. The event left minimal environmental footprint, with just two small bags of rubbish collected the next morning.

The Mt Burdett Foundation’s Esperance Community Advisory Committee proudly supports grassroots initiatives that bring people together, boost local economies, and enhance wellbeing in regional WA.
