The Mt Burdett Foundation’s Rural and Regional Advancement Foundation (RRAF) is proud to be backing Ravensthorpe farmer and community volunteer Helen Burton on her next big step: completing the prestigious Rabobank Executive Development Program (EDP).

Helen and her husband Andy have built their mixed cropping and livestock enterprise from a part-time venture into a thriving business that now employs full-time and seasonal staff. With 17 years in agriculture, and a background in teaching and school leadership, Helen knows that strong businesses fuel strong rural communities.

By attending the Sydney-based EDP, Helen will:

  • Sharpen strategic planning and financial analysis to future-proof the family enterprise

  • Hone leadership, communication, and negotiation skills she can share across local boards and committees

  • Develop a robust succession and growth plan that keeps investment and jobs in the Ravensthorpe district

  • Bring fresh ideas home, supporting innovation, collaboration, and resilience right across the region

The grant from RRAF has gone toward course fees, travel, and accommodation, reducing the financial barrier for a mid-career farmer who already devotes significant time and personal funds to community volunteering.

Impact you’ll see:

  • Business strength & local jobs – Better planning means more sustainable farming and ongoing employment.

  • Community leadership – Helen already serves on P&C, sports clubs, and industry working groups; EDP skills will elevate every table she sits at.

  • Knowledge sharing – From strategic decision-making to running effective meetings, Helen will teach what she learns throughout Ravensthorpe’s volunteer networks.

  • Inspiration for others – Showing that world-class professional development is reachable from regional WA encourages other locals, especially women in agriculture, to aim high.

RRAF exists to unlock the potential of rural and regional Western Australians who, like Helen, want to lift their businesses and their communities. By investing in people, we’re investing in the long-term health, prosperity, and vibrancy of places like Ravensthorpe.
