For the residents of the Esperance Aged Care Facility, mealtimes are more than just routine, they’re a moment of comfort, nourishment and community. With the help of the Mt Burdett Foundation, the facility has taken a major step forward in improving how food is delivered to residents each day. Funded through a grant from the Esperance Community Advisory Committee, the Enhancement of Food Delivery Systems project has seen the purchase and installation of 10 specialised banquet cabinets designed to maintain safe food temperatures and improve the efficiency of meal service. This upgrade addresses a critical need for modernisation in the kitchen, improving both resident wellbeing and staff workflows.
The previous food delivery method, using esky-style boxes, presented safety and compliance risks, including the potential for meals to fall into unsafe temperature zones. This could impact both food quality and health standards.
The introduction of banquet cabinets, along with a necessary kitchen power upgrade, has allowed meals to be delivered hot, fresh and safely every time. The cabinets are equipped with temperature controls and data recording capabilities to meet modern compliance requirements.
The project also included staff training on cabinet use and safe handling procedures, ensuring the system is easy to use and immediately effective.
The impact of this project has reached far beyond the kitchen. By ensuring food safety and improving meal quality, the upgrade has enhanced resident satisfaction, health and dignity. It has also reduced the strain on kitchen staff, helping to improve morale, efficiency and retention.
Importantly, the upgrade has opened the door for new and innovative menus that were not feasible under the old system. With greater temperature control, chefs can introduce more diverse and appetising meals, improving not only nutrition but enjoyment.
Family members can also take greater confidence in the quality of care their loved ones receive, encouraging more frequent visits and deeper connection.
With this investment, the Mt Burdett Foundation is proud to support Esperance Aged Care Facility’s vision for safe, efficient, and high-quality food service. It’s a simple but powerful change, one that reaffirms the value of every meal, every person, and every moment of care.
